About Me: Here’s Who You’re Hiring
Hi, I’m Brian — the painter behind Colour Squad.
Despite the name, we’re not a big team. It’s usually just me and my wife, and sometimes my good mate David helps out on bigger jobs. Together, we handle every step of the work ourselves. That means you’re not getting random subcontractors or strangers from big corporations — you’re getting HONEST work from people who genuinely CARE about the result.
My Experience and Approach
Before starting Colour Squad, I worked for seven different painting businesses across Sydney over the years — from small teams of 2 or 3 to larger crews of up to 8.
I didn’t do it because I had to — I did it because I wanted to see how different people approached the same job. I learned a lot. And I can tell you this:
Almost every painter can slap paint on and make a job look good on the surface.
But not many take the time to do foundational, lasting work properly.
The truth is — no one sees what’s under that smooth paint layer except for the painters themselves. And only those with good years of experience and deep knowledge know what’s likely to happen down the track.
There are definitely painters out there who do it right — and I’m proud to say I’m one of them.
I don’t compete on price. I price for what I do.

Common Issues I Handle
Over the years, I’ve dealt with all kinds of issues:
- Hairline cracks creeping across ceilings
- Stains and mould from all those repeated rains
- Peeling or flaking paint from poor prep
- Damaged trims, gaps and a fist hole in your son’s bedroom wall
Now to be fair — not all of this is due to bad paint jobs. Sometimes it’s just age. Even the best paints won’t last forever, especially in older homes or high-moisture areas.
But here’s the thing — proper prep and the right materials can slow that down massively.
That’s why I don’t just patch and roll. I take the time to do it properly, so your home looks great now and still holds up years down the track.
Why Proper Preparation Matters
For a proper job, prep work often takes 30–40% of the total time and quote.
Prep work isn’t just filler — it’s the foundation of a lasting paint job.
I’ve seen jobs finished way too fast. When some so-called “painter” starts on day one and wraps up by day three, it usually means the prep was rushed.
Fast jobs might look great at first — but give it a few months…
- Cracks reappear
- Mould comes back
- Paint bubbles up
- Paint flakes off
…and you’re stuck doing it all over again.
My Process
Here’s what I do instead:
- Inspect the root of the issue
- Protect everything — your floors, furniture and space
- Address any issues using proper tools and methods
- Prepare surfaces the right way: wash, sand, fill, prime
- Paint them to perfection with the best products
I use high-quality products from trusted brands like Haymes and Dulux.
But delivering a quality job takes more than just good materials — it demands solid, methodical setup and patience — often days of scraping and hand-sanding to get it just right.
No matter if it’s only one wall or the whole house, I’ll always be honest about what needs doing and what doesn’t — so you only pay for the work that really matters.
